Course providers are reminded that NMLS policies require that every student, at the end of every course, be issued a course completion certificate. At a minimum, the course completion certificate is to:
– list the name of course provider
– the course number
– the course title
– the course completion date
– the MLO’s name
– individual’s NMLS ID number
The course completion certificate is an important document that validates an individual has completed a course. It’s also the first thing a regulator or the call center will ask for if there is ever a question about the education completed. If you have questions about the requirement, please contact Rich Madison at email@example.com.
Course providers are advised that NMLS offices will be closed on Thursday, November 22 and Friday, November 23 for the Thanksgiving holiday. The NMLS Call Center will be open on Friday from 9am to 7pm ET.
Normal office hours will resume on Monday, November 26. We wish everybody a warm and safe holiday.
NMLS will be closed Monday, November 12th, in observance of Veterans Day. Normal business operations will resume on Tuesday, October 13th.
NMLS has seen a recent surge of MLOs who have retaken 20 hours of pre-licensure education. Typically, these are individuals who completed PE in 2009 or 2010 and are seeking a license or were licensed in 2012. Course providers and the NMLS Call Center are advised that they are never to instruct an MLO to retake PE.
Unless there is a specific requirement from a state agency (e.g. AZ-DFI), there is no requirement for an MLO to retake 20 hours of pre-licensure education. Upon completion of PE, MLOs are required to complete 8 hours of CE annually. If an MLO left the industry and returned, or if they are applying for reinstatement, they are generally required to complete Late CE. Retaking PE will not satisfy the requirement for CE.
If an MLO was licensed in 2012 and they completed PE in 2009 or 2010 and as a result have an education gap on their record that is preventing them from submitting for renewal, the MLO must work through their state agency to have the gap addressed.
Questions about PE/CE education requirements should be addressed to Rich Madison, Sr. Director, Mortgage Education at firstname.lastname@example.org.
