NMLS Closed Labor Day


NMLS will be closed Monday, September 3rd, in observance of Labor Day.   Normal business operations will resume on Tuesday, September 4th.  We wish the course provider community a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend.

August Course Renewal Period Closing; September Opens on Saturday


Providers with courses up for renewal in August have until Friday at 11:59pm ET to submit the applications and pay the fees. Please note that if a course is not renewed on time, the course will have to be resubmitted as a new course and will it be evaluated accordingly.   The September course renewal period will open on Saturday.  If you do not intend to renew a course please let Alan Ridenour (aridenour@csbs.org) know.

CE Reminder Notice Sent to State-licensed MLOs


The following reminder has been sent to MLOs who are not yet compliant for CE:
This is a reminder that the SAFE Act requires individual mortgage loan originators (MLOs) to complete 8 hours of NMLS approved continuing education (CE) annually. In addition to meeting the minimum federal requirements, a number of states also have state-specific education requirements that must be met. For details see State CE Requirement Chart.

A majority of state regulators will prevent an MLO from submitting an application for licensure renewal if they have not completed CE. Since it may take as long as 7 days for a course provider to report a course completion into NMLS, MLOs are strongly advised not to wait until a state agency’s deadline to try to complete CE or they may be prevented from submitting for renewal on time.

CE Deadlines
It takes 24 hours for a course completion to be recognized in NMLS and for the system to recognize you are eligible for renewal.

Smart Deadline:  Course(s) reported to NMLS by Thurs, Dec 21
At Risk to Miss Renewal: Course(s) reported to NMLS by Fri, Dec 28
Guaranteed to Miss Renewal:Course(s) reported to NMLS Mon, Dec 31

The last day for technical or customer service support for on-time CE reporting is Friday, December 28.

August Provider Renewal Window Closing/September Renewal Period Opens Saturday


The August course provider renewal period will close this Friday at 11:59pm ET, and the September renewal period will open on Saturday.  Course providers listed below have until September 30 to pay the fees and submit their renewal applications.  Organizations failing to file for renewal on time will have to apply as a new provider (and currently approved courses will become inactive).  Organizations seeking to renew should closely review the application and other requirements posted under the Course Provider Section of the NMLS Resource Center.  If you do not intend to renew as a provider please let Alan Ridenour (aridenour@csbs.org) know and we won’t send follow-up notices.

Change of Policy Regarding Correcting Late CE Credit Banking Mistakes


Over the past several weeks NMLS has noted a significant increase in the number of requests to correct mistakes associated with credit banking Late CE courses.  The most common mistakes are the MLO did not correctly inform the course provider the year for which they are making-up CE, or the course provider incorrectly credit banked the course to year 2012 instead of 2011.   Effective August 20, 2012 NMLS will no longer perform data fixes to correct these mistakes.  If a Late CE course is reported incorrectly, NMLS will remove the incorrect course completion and the course provider will be required to re-credit bank the course correctly and to pay the credit banking fee.

To verify a Late CE requirement or its year, MLOs or course providers can send an e-mail to nmls.ed@stateregulatoryregistry.org.  The inquiry must include the MLO’s NMLS ID, first and last name, and a return e-mail address.
