Overview and Forum Objectives: In 2010 NMLS updated the functional specifications for online courses (both PE and CE) to provide greater clarification of the technical requirements and to address concerns raised by regulators and the industry. Despite attempts to provide greater clarity regarding specific needs that courses meet, particularly with respect to timing and rigor requirements, there continues to remain a great deal of confusion among members of the course provider community about how online courses need to be configured to receive approval. To address these concerns, NMLS would like all providers who are offering online courses to participate in a forum to discuss the technical requirements and to offer suggestions for how to improve the functional specifications so that courses can be designed to meet industry expectations and also be approved in the most efficient manner possible.
